Will Britney Appeal? Will She Lose Her Children?

L.A. County Superior Court Judge Scott Gordon issued an order today stating that Kevin Federline, the father of Britney Spears’ two sons, “is to retain physical custody of the minor children on Wednesday, October 3, 2007 at 12:00 PM until further order of the court.â€?

Today’s ruling states: “Respondent’s oral motion pursuant to section 214FC is granted and the matter proceeds as a closed hearing. The court and all parties present confer on the record that the court makes its order as fully reflected in the notes of the official court reporter. The court’s prior order including the orders made on September 28, 2007 remain in full force and effect with the following modification: Respondent is to retain physical custody of the minor children on Wednesday October 3rd, 2007 at 12 PM until further order of the Court. Respondents ex-parte application is noticed for October 3, 2007 at 1:30 PM in Department 88.
Luckily for Britney, the ruling doesn’t mention whether she will be allowed to appeal. Since silence construes consent, this means that Britney WILL be able to appeal. Whether she will remains the million-dollar question. I hope she doesn’t try to represent herself. That would be an absolute disaster.
Jes’ predictions: Britney may lose Sean Preston and Jayden James for a few weeks, but I’m willing to bet that before long she’ll ante-up and find an attorney willing to represent her. This is a very real threat and one that will rock Britney to her core. I think in the future we will either see Britney grow up quickly or we will see Britney’s downward spiral. More than anything, Britney needs the unconditional support of her family, friends and fans at this emotional and uncertain time in her life.

I agree, Jes. This is a pivotal moment for Britney. Like the proverb says, “That which does not kill us makes us stronger”. This will either send Britney completely over the edge, and all that that implies, or will force her to confront her demons and find the inner resources to pull herself together and fight for her family. I hope it’s the latter–God knows she’s had enough bad breaks this year. Anyone lesser would have collapsed from the strain by now.
Good luck, Britney–we’re all in your corner!
