Circus Review - pt 3!

by Lessa

Hey ya’ll! Since I can do the snarky comments without thinking, and post pictures galore, I thought it’d be nice for you all to hear a review from someone who simply ‘gets’ music - unlike my “yeah, I like it.” type of comments! So, here’s my buddy Danny, who’s going to walk you through the album that he adores! Enjoy as we continue song by song…

BLUR - Blur is another off the road of Circus Clowns song, and unfortunately shows “bleeping” at it’s worst. You see, in the beginning of the song, Britney states “turn the lights out, the shit is way to fucking bright.” Only problem is - It’s like scratched out, in a twisted, obnoxious way. Why? Who knows, because she’s certainly said worse things. ANYWAYS, the song is pretty good lyric-wise, but the beat of the song has a sort of annoying undertone that I can’t get over. Blur mainly focuses on Britney’s ‘blurry’ days over the past few years. “Where the hell am I? Who are you? What’d we do last night?” and “Everything is still a blur” are just a few lines from the blurry eighth track.

MMM PAPI - Mmm Papi is certainly a clown’s song, and fits the theme of the album most perfectly. It’s a completely orginal song for Britney, and sounds nothing like her previous work. Mmm Papi has a mexican-festive type beat to it, with a high-pictched Britney screaming “Ooh Papi love you, Ooh Papi love you” and “Ooh lovey, Ooh lovey, Ooh PAPI!” Consider this the clowns-on-stilts part of the circus.

MANNEQUIN - Another of my personal favorites - the tenth track of the album - It’s got a dancy beat, with a high-powered Britney mega-voice. This song is another jab at the Paparazzi, with the main line being “My face like a Mannequin”, although other’s would disagree. The lyrical content is not 100% in it, like the rest of the album. But it’s certainly another great listen.

LACE AND LEATHER - Now that we are nearing the end of circus, Britney feels the need to walk the rope, above alligators in sexy black boots and lace and leather. Oh yeah, it’s that sexy. This song reminds me of a really dirty dance club, with go-go dancers and strippers. Yum! With a rhythimatic, dancy and overall studded diamond beat and the powerful sexy lyrics to match, this song is one of the best.

MY BABY - The actual end of the original album, My Baby is a slow, beautiful song obviously dedicated to Britney’s babies. “Cuz’ without you, how did I get through? All of my days, without you” and “See everything’s true, my baby it’s you, my baby, my baby, my baby.” My Baby is the true feelings, dedication and emotions that Britney feels for her two boys, and it shows. Her voice comes across strong, powerful and filled with love. My Baby is the song in the credits of the circus.

BONUS // ROCK ME IN - Rock Me In is a bonus song on one of the versions of Circus. As a single, this song is amazing. It’s got a fast, fast beat to it and some great lyrics to match.

Thank you Danny! You rock! As does Britney, of course! What are ya’ll waiting for? Go get the album TODAY!
