Britney Spears and Dr. Phil?

Britney Spears was released from her “medical hold” at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center yesterday, but still needs psychological help. (As if that weren’t obvious already.) And guess who’s helping her? (This shouldn’t be that hard of a guess, if you read the headline above.)
Yes, that’s right. It’s Dr. Phil McGraw, who was thrown into fame after several appearances as Oprah Winfrey’s go-to psychological expert.
A press release quotes Dr. Phil making a statement about his meeting with Britney:
“My meeting with Britney and some family members this morning in her room at Cedars leaves me convinced more than ever that she is in dire need of both medical and psychological intervention.”
“She was released moments before my arrival and was packing when I entered the room. We visited for about an hour before I walked with her to her car. I am very concerned for her.”
Reportedly, Dr. Phil plans to talk more about Britney Spears on his daytime talk show this Tuesday, January 8th. (Hey - I think that’s a plug for him. I bet his ratings shoot through the roof this week!)
From Dr. Phil’s website: “America watched in astonishment as one of its brightest and most troubled stars, Britney Spears, reached what may be her darkest moment. Taken by ambulance after a custody stand-off at her home, even her closest family and friends could only speculate about her behavior. Dr. Phil paid an exclusive visit to Britney Spears just moments before she left Cedars-Sinai hospital, where she was admitted. Get the details of his one-on-one with the troubled pop star and learn why the visit left Dr. Phil “convinced more than ever” that she is in need of a medical and psychological intervention. If it’s happening now, Dr. Phil is going to deal with it now!” (I may have to DVR that.)
On the homefront-side of things, during an emergency hearing this past Friday, a court commissioner suspended Britney’s right to visit her sons Sean Preston, 2, and Jayden James, 1. The commissioner also gave sole physical and legal custody to Britney’s ex-husband, Kevin Federline.
Previously, Kevin Federline had temporary custody and Britney Spears had court-monitored visitation.
The court set another hearing for Jan. 14, 2008.
